Crazy week for me so I’m skipping writing about Writing Sins and instead I’m going to talk about what happens when you get it right. And right now you’re asking yourself ‘get what right?’ Well what I mean to say is, do you ever/ have you ever, had one of those moments where you wrote something that you absolutely loved? REALLY loved? Where you thought to yourself, ‘Oh yea! I fricking NAILED that one!’.
I have to admit that I can count all the times this has happened to me on two fingers. But damn, when it does happen…bliss! It’s the only time I truly find myself sticking to my guns and not giving a damn if anyone else likes it or not. If a publisher doesn’t like it, fine, I’ll change it, but till then, I’m proudly going to my death bed thinking ‘That right there is fricking genius!’ 😉
Have you ever had such a moment and if so how often? And for those published, have you had to change something or delete something that you felt this strongly about, and how did that feel, how did you adjust?

Tammy’s Writing Tip of the Week
My tip this week is based on something I tried out myself recently. I listen to a lot of audiobooks and as I’m listening I’m thinking, hmm, wonder what my chapter would sound like? So I voice recorded it just to see. I always read my work aloud but have never before recorded it. What an interesting perspective! I highly recommend that you should try this it at least once. 🙂

That is the most awesome feeling in the world! Yes, I’ve felt it a few times. Even with as often as I write flash, I haven’t felt it often, but damn it feels good when I do.
As of the recording, there’s a group on Twitter that does #spokensunday where they record their stories and post the audio online. I’m too scared to do it myself because I hate the sound of my own voice, but it’s quite popular.

Yes, there’s a scene in SHOW DOG SINGS THE BLUES that is, paws down, the best piece of writing I have ever done in my life. I was so thrilled by it that I wept.
These are the rare moments that make all the struggle worthwhile.

To be honest I think its only happened once when I wrote what I felt was a spectacular piece of sword fighting. The action was all there, you could feel and see the maneuvers and above all else the pace was pretty snappy.
Other than that though I hated the dialogue, felt that the characters were too cliched and at the end of it was a little upset. So with teh bliss came the anger. Not a good combo.
Now I’m working on getting the hang of different aspects I’ll rewrite the sequence although perhaps more for a YA audience which will make a certain scene in Princess Bride look like two amateurs. LOL
Thanks for the audio tip. It should be a good way to work out when a sentence needs to be cut.
I know the exact scene you’re talking about Gareth, it’s one of my favourite movies and that was one of my favourite scenes. 🙂 I hope you continue with your work so that we can all enjoy it. 🙂
Nailed it and the left it for two weeks and came back only to hate it:-( I’m my worst critic. But it does feel go at the time.
Oh yeah I know what you’re talking about for sure. One day it’s genius, I read someone elses writing and come back to mine, and think, seriously? Ugh. You’re going great Ang, look at your accomplishments, that alone tells you you’re on the right track. 🙂
Slam dunk! Right now I’m feeling the love of this latest WIP, pushing the thresholds of my own comfort levels. Let’s see what the critics say! There’s plenty of room for failure, but no place for cowardice.
